What became known as the Red River Cart was an area original. You could hear them coming for miles, and there was a very good reason why...According to Mark Peihl, archivist for the Clay County Historical Society, "...The hubs were left ungreased - trail dust would mix with lubricants and work like sand paper." Makes sense to me!
